Name : Bill Goodykoontz / Alias : Arizona Republic
I've heard "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" probably thousands of times, too, and I still like hearing them. So it is with Howard's movie - the story is so incredibly good, it's worth repeating.

Name : Godfrey Cheshire / Alias : RogerEbert.com
The group's fans today, of any age, are bound to welcome Eight Days a Week, in which Beatlemania's mid-'60s comet of joy and astonishment is thrillingly captured.

Name : Alex McCown / Alias : AV Club
It's a testament to the buoyancy of the film that such exhausted, well-trod material can still feel fresh.

Name : Kenneth Turan / Alias : Los Angeles Times
The music is so strong, and such a demonstration of how potent the group was in action, that it alone makes the film worth seeing.

Name : Peter Travers / Alias : Rolling Stone
Ron Howard's documentary rightly keeps coming back to the music and the band's delight in making it. Good move. It truly is a joy forever.

Name : Stephanie Merry / Alias : Washington Post
It all feels a little glossy, but who can complain when the vibes are so good and the tunes so catchy?

Name : John DeFore / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
It will make a fine entry point for younger auds who grew up with the songs but never had Beatlemania shoved down their throats.

Name : Guy Lodge / Alias : Variety
Taken on [its own] limited terms, "Eight Days a Week" plays nicely enough: the mostly uptempo Side A of a well-stocked greatest hits album, as it were.

Name : Tom Shone / Alias : Newsweek
[Howard seems] as if he were intent on making a film for anyone who tuned in to The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, fell in love with the four adorable mop tops and regrets all the long-haired plonking about with sitars that came later.

Name : Joe Morgenstern / Alias : Wall Street Journal
Don't expect trenchant analysis or deep insights into the group's creative process. Do revel, however, in the gleeful tumult and the gorgeous music.

Name : G. Allen Johnson / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
A must for any fan.

Name : Mark Caro / Alias : Chicago Sun-Times
Howard is more interested in wowing audiences with exuberant, hysteria-ridden performances than he is in digging for explanations.

Name : Paul de Barros / Alias : Seattle Times
By using home-movie footage in hotel rooms, fly-on-the-wall tape from the studio control room, Howard's film often succeeds in making you feel it all from the four lads' astonished point of view.

Name : Gersh Kuntzman / Alias : New York Daily News
You can't watch them in these days and not be caught up in Beatlemania.

Name : Melissa Anderson / Alias : Village Voice
Frantically rushing through the quartet's prodigious output during these years, Eight Days a Week is best when it slows down .

Name : Ty Burr / Alias : Boston Globe
Take the kids and watch their little minds get blown.

Name : J. R. Jones / Alias : Chicago Reader
The familiar events presented here were covered more thoroughly in the band's own 11-hour Beatles Anthology, though Howard has dug up some good ancillary concert footage that illustrates the chaos swirling around every show.

Name : Neil Genzlinger / Alias : New York Times
90 percent familiar and a bit hagiographic as well, but just try watching it without smiling.

Name : Stephen Whitty / Alias : Newark Star-Ledger
As someone who's been a fan since 5, twisting away in my living room to their Ed Sullivan appearance, there isn't much I haven't seen. Or thought I hadn't. But Howard still digs up surprises .

Name : Anthony Lane / Alias : New Yorker
The Beatles now belong to an honored past, stuck there like an obelisk, and yet here they are, alive-busting out all over, time and time again. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Name : Dave Calhoun / Alias : Time Out
A sparky, moving and funny film about John, Paul, George and Ringo, whose own youthful words provide the film's best moments.

Name : Peter Howell / Alias : Toronto Star
First-person POV quickly gets old as the bodies stack and the story loses steam.

Name : Ignatiy Vishnevetsky / Alias : AV Club
Hardcore Henry never aspires to rise above its one gimmick.

Name : Rafer Guzman / Alias : Newsday
A gonzo Russian action-flick shot entirely in first-person perspective. About as coherent as it sounds, but highly inventive and bloody great fun.

Name : Stephen Whitty / Alias : New York Daily News
You could go see "Hardcore Henry" - or you could gulp down a pint of vodka, load in "Grand Theft Auto," then strap the TV to your face and throw yourself down the stairs.

Name : Michael O'Sullivan / Alias : Washington Post
Director Ilya Naishuller has said that he originally thought a 90-minute feature using the same technique was a bad idea, based on little more than a gimmick. It turns out he was right, but that won't matter to certain audiences.

Name : Adam Graham / Alias : Detroit News
Hardcore Henry doesn't just get under your skin, it gets behind your eyeballs and uses your head as its own cockpit. For hardcore thrills, Henry is your guy.

Name : Barbara VanDenburgh / Alias : Arizona Republic
While its audacity is laudable, the film ultimately has all the thrill of watching someone else play a first-person-shooter video game.

Name : Peter Travers / Alias : Rolling Stone
It's all about the ride, the relentless wallop and whoosh. But, hey, sometimes that's all a cine-junkie needs for a fix.

Name : Kyle Smith / Alias : New York Post
For the first time ever, a movie has actually done it. "Hardcore Henry" has precisely replicated the experience of watching someone else play a video game.

Name : Glenn Kenny / Alias : New York Times
Its dour eccentricity gives Hardcore Henry a potency above and beyond that of standard-issue show-off action fare. That doesn't mean it's not still obnoxious, though.

Name : Dennis Harvey / Alias : Variety
Only the tiniest, most basic elements of character, backstory and even narrative are offered on the run in a movie whose 95% frantic-action composition has no need or breathing space for more.

Name : Will Leitch / Alias : The New Republic
A great movie fools you into thinking it's really happening. By trying to make us a part of the film itself, Hardcore Henry just keeps reminding us it's not.

Name : Brad Wheeler / Alias : Globe and Mail
Is it much of a movie? Not really. It's more of an experience - a passive sort of virtual reality - that uses a bare-bones narrative as a vehicle for a big-time body count.

Name : Bruce Kirkland / Alias : Toronto Sun
The relentless action flick Hardcore Henry is totally nuts and a lot of fun for freaks.

Name : Michael Ordona / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
If one can accept the story's video-game logic and cope with the kinetosis, "Hardcore" is often exhilaratingly extreme.

Name : Chris Nashawaty / Alias : Entertainment Weekly
I'm sure a lot of people will call Hardcore Henry "innovative" and "groundbreaking." And maybe it is. But it also feels more like a cool gimmick than a movie-and that gimmick gets old pretty fast.

Name : Joe Morgenstern / Alias : Wall Street Journal
A dim beacon in the darkening night of action features, signaling a path to plot-free oblivion.

Name : Stephen Garrett / Alias : New York Observer
[Naishuller's] debut feature is a landmark of sorts, and a potent omen in this year of mass-marketed virtual reality.

Name : Dave White / Alias : TheWrap
Their collective trip to hell is death tourism for the viewer; its sole, genuine feeling the one of relief that comes when it's over.

Name : Stephen Dalton / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
Billed as the first-ever action movie filmed entirely from the hero's first-person viewpoint, Hardcore blasts along like a supercharged computer-game shoot-em-up, bursting with sick humor and splatterpunk violence.

Name : Joshua Rothkopf / Alias : Time Out
If action movies are meant to be stunning, Hardcore Henry can proudly take its place among the giants. Even better, it lets you stand with them.

Name : Amy Nicholson / Alias : MTV
Hardcore Henry is nauseating, twice over.

Name : Matthew Lickona / Alias : San Diego Reader
The story exists mainly to provide reason and shape for the frenzy of carnage: constant, numbing, and in the film's view at least, occasionally funny.

Name : Christy Lemire / Alias : ChristyLemire.com
It is pummeling. It is punishing. It is nauseating and headache-inducing.

Name : Tom Russo / Alias : Boston Globe
When the action is at its sharpest, such as with Henry's mid-chase leap from a detonating truck onto the back of a motorcycle, it's spectacular. Other times, it can be as wearying as generically hyper-edited Hollywood fare.

Name : Bruce Diones / Alias : New Yorker
This first-person-shooter extravaganza has little purpose besides showing what happens when a GoPro is strapped to a series of stuntmen as they run through their repertoire of extraordinary action moves.

Name : Robert Abele / Alias : Los Angeles Times
Too stuck in the swamp of empty machismo to be anything more than the feature equivalent of a soar-and-crash overdose.

Name : Tirdad Derakhshani / Alias : Philadelphia Inquirer
For about 90 seconds, the novel first-person-shooter point of view hits our bodies with an unexpected flood of adrenaline, in a heart-pounding rush. Trouble is, the chemical high doesn't last.
